• Perform clinical treatments using established dental hygienist procedures as assigned by the dentist
• Develop and implement individualized dental care plans for patients
• Educate patients and families of dental care
• Maintain patient's dental documents including patient reactions, laboratory procedures and follow-up on results
• Assess patient's dental condition and needs utilizing patient screening procedures
• Chart conditions of decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by dentist
• Feel and visually examine gums for sores and signs of disease
• Clean calcareous deposits, accretions, and stains from teeth and beneath margins of gums, using dental instruments
• Feel lymph nodes under patient's chin to detect swelling or tenderness that could indicate presence of oral cancer
• Remove excess cement from coronal surfaces of teeth
• Place, carve, and finish amalgam restorations
• Administer local anaesthetic agents
• Apply fluorides and other cavity preventing agents to arrest dental decay.
• Expose and develop x-ray film
• Remove sutures and dressings
• Place and remove rubber dams, matrices, and temporary restorations
• Provide clinical services and health education to improve and maintain oral health of school children as assigned
• Remove excess cement from coronal surfaces of teeth
• Make impressions for study casts
• Prepare patient care areas
• Prepare reports and assists with patient reception, telephone calls, routine triage, and other office duties
• Perform other duties as assigned such as take impressions and radiographs and carry out some minor treatments under supervision once qualified
• Participate in meetings, providing input and suggestions
• Participate in continuing education activities as required
• Assist in the orientation of new staff
