Dental Oncology Fellowship

The Fellowship in Dental Oncology is a one year training program offered through the Department of Dental Oncology and Maxillofacial Prosthetics at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. There are two positions available per year.

This program is intended for those wishing to gain further clinical skills and knowledge in managing patients with a cancer diagnosis, particularly those who experience complications in the oral and maxillofacial complex. Fellows are given a supervised clinical experience in many on-site and off-site rotations.

On-site rotations include scheduled time in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Prosthodontics, Radiology and Clinical Pathology clinics. 

Off-site rotations involve dedicated time in each of the following services: Head and Neck Radiation Oncology, Head and Neck Surgery (including operating room experience), Radiation Late Effects, Autologous and Allogeneic Bone Marrow/Stem Cell Transplant, Acute Leukemia, and Mouth (combined Oral Pathology and Otolaryngology) Clinics. 

Along with a unique clinical experience at the largest Cancer Centre in Canada, and one of the top five largest Cancer Centres in the World, Fellows will also have dedicated research and academic time. Academic half-days allow for exposure to topics specific to Dental Oncology, as well as investigation into new literature.

Applicant Pre-requisites: Applicants must have completed, or will have completed upon program start, either a one year hospital-based dental residency or equivalent, a dental specialty degree, or at least two years of experience in clinical practice. 

The Fellowship program runs from July 1st to June 30th of the following year. Fellows receive a stipend of approximately $65,000 for the year.

Application window opens October 1st for a start date in July of the following year. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until January 1st at which point interviews are conducted. If two successful applicants are not selected at this time, the application period is re-opened.
