Pain Week 2025
The U of T Dentistry Pain Week has successfully concluded, bringing together over 1,300 students from eight healthcare professions, including more than 120 DDS3 students.
“This interdisciplinary initiative provided an invaluable opportunity to deepen students’ understanding of pain, its societal impact, and the critical role of interprofessional collaboration in delivering comprehensive pain care,” says associate professor Iacopo Cioffi, who is also the co-director of the Centre for Multimodal Sensorimotor and Pain Research.
Spanning from fundamental pain mechanisms to best practices in clinical management, Pain Week highlighted the essential contributions of dentistry students in developing interprofessional pain management strategies. Their work underscored the pivotal role of oral health in enhancing quality of life and its significance as a key component of daily functioning.
The U of T Dentistry Pain Week was coordinated by Cioffi, who is dedicated to advancing knowledge and best practices in orofacial pain at the Faculty; Rachel Bosma, assistant professor, status only, who leads the University of Toronto Centre for the Study of Pain; and Shelley O'Brien, program coordinator. A special thanks to the facilitators from U of T Dentistry, whose dedication and expertise were instrumental in promoting excellence in pain care.
