Summer Student Program Presentation Day

What a way to end the summer! The Faculty of Dentistry's Summer Research Program end of summer presentations took place on Friday, August 24, 2018.

Summer research students presented their projects to faculty judges Dr. Karina Carneiro, Dr. Grace De Souza, Dr. Ben Ganss, Dr. Christopher McCulloch, Dr. Massieh Moayedi and Dr. Paul Santerre.

Some stats from this year’s research day:

• 25 students participated in the program
• 14 students were funded through the program (50% program, 50% supervisor)
• 6 students were funded through CIHR undergraduate fellowships (100%)
• 1 student was funded through NSERC fellowship (100%)
• 4 students were funded by their supervisors (100%)

Here are this year’s results:

1st Place:  Francesca Kim, Supervisor: Dr. Karina Carneiro. Francesca is awarded the Pynn Family award and will receive $1,000 towards travel towards a conference in 2018/2019.

2nd Place:  Anish Nanda, Supervisor:  Dr. Christopher McCulloch. Anish is awarded CDA Dentsply award and will be attending the Conference in 2019 (Conference Details TBC).

3rd Place:  Susie Son, Supervisor:  Dr. Bernhard Ganss.  Susie is awarded the Hinman Symposium Research Award and will travel to Memphis, TN for the Conference in November 2018.

4th Place:  Elizabeth Worndl, Supervisor:  Dr. Laura Dempster.  Elizabeth is awarded the OKU award, valued at $250, towards personal research development in accordance with their supervisor.

5th Place:  Cheng Fang, Supervisor:  Dr. Carlos Quinonez.  Cheng is awarded $250 towards personal research development in accordance with their supervisor.
