12. Is it mandatory to write the Dental Aptitude Test (DAT) before applying for the dentistry program?

Yes, it is mandatory to write either the Canadian or American DAT exam prior to applying to the dentistry program. The DAT exam must be taken before the December 1st application deadline each year and test scores are only valid for two years. Only the Academic Average (AA) and Perceptual Ability (PAT) sections of the DAT are looked at in the admissions process. Applicants are not required to complete the Manual Dexterity (MDT) portion of the DAT exam. If the DAT exam is taken more than once we will use your highest set of DAT scores in the admissions process.
