Jack Gerrow, an adjunct professor and alumnus of U of T's Faculty of Dentistry, has been appointed a Member of the Order of Canada for his contributions in dentistry, “notably in the areas of accreditation and competencies.” He made it his mission to improve dentistry education so that graduates learn to care for their patients safely and successfully. He served as executive director and registrar of the National Dental Examining Board for 24 years, and has helped develop examinations and certification processes in Australia, South Korea and Hong Kong. 

Dr. Gerrow was also recently awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Dalhousie University where he began his teaching career as an assistant professor in 1985.  He spent the next 29 years there inspiring students, and honing his thinking on competency-based teaching and assessment.
