Our Community: A Cornerstone of Success at the Faculty of Dentistry

At the heart of every successful institution lies a strong and supportive community. Here, at the Faculty of Dentistry, our community plays a pivotal role in our achievements. We are committed to pursuing knowledge, shaping future generations of oral health care professionals, and fostering individuals who will make a lasting impact as change makers, leaders, and community builders. As the first, largest, most comprehensive, and esteemed dental school in Canada, our dedication to excellence is matched only by the extraordinary support we receive from our incredible donors.
As a tangible symbol of gratitude, the Faculty of Dentistry will be unveiling a new, beautiful donor wall this fall. This will recognize and honor our generous benefactors who have wholeheartedly supported the Defy Gravity Campaign and the future of U of T Dentistry. Positioned prominently in our patient lobby, which warmly welcomes over 15,000 visitors each year, the donor wall will serve as an acknowledgment and a reminder of the exceptional community that has invested in the essential priorities of our school.
Since the beginning of the Defy Gravity campaign in January 2019, our community has rallied together, raising over $18 million. We are profoundly grateful to the nearly 50 individuals, friends, and partners who have contributed through generous gifts of $25,000 or more, estate gifts, and gifts-in-kind. Their contributions have surpassed mere financial support; they represent a profound belief in our vision and a shared commitment to advancing oral health care.
As the director of advancement, I can’t emphasize enough, how crucial the need for philanthropic support is if we are to retain our position as the top-ranked dental school in the country. Philanthropy provides an incredible opportunity to meaningfully and dramatically shape the future of this esteemed institution by supporting students, research, the building and our patients.
The new donor wall will not only celebrate the benevolence of our community but also hopefully inspires others to join the Campaign. It will embody the spirit of unity, collaboration, and commitment that defines the Faculty of Dentistry. The names inscribed on the wall will serve as a testament to the transformative power of collective action and the lasting impact that can be achieved when individuals come together for a shared cause.
As we unveil this lovely tribute this coming fall, we extend our deepest gratitude to our remarkable community of donors and those who will add their names to the wall over time.
