Dr. George Christodoulou, 8T5
Dr. George Christodoulou is a DDS 8T5 graduate of the University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry and earned his M.B.A from the Rotman School of Management in 2007. He earned a mastership from the Academy of General Dentistry and practiced in the Greater Toronto Area for more than 20 years. Dr. Christodoulou is a founder of Altima Healthcare, one of the largest primary health care groups in Canada.
In 2007, Dr. Christodoulou received a University of Toronto Arbor Award for outstanding voluntary service to the Faculty of Dentistry through his work with the former gala. He, along with this business partner Sven Grail, made a donation in 2002 to enable the renovation of the Student Services office. The Altima Dental Student Services Centre assists dental students with Faculty policies, schedules and other concerns regarding their dental education.
In 2017, he established the Christodoulou Access to Care Fund at the Faculty. The establishment of this fund inspired the Faculty of Dentistry to match the donation and create a $1M endowment to build a foundation of sustainable support. The Access to Care Fund exists to provide financial support to people in the community who cannot pay the dental fees associated with their oral healthcare at the Faculty. Through this fund, students’ educational experience is enriched as more patients are able to afford comprehensive treatment plans, allowing students to gain increased clinical opportunities and exposure to more sophisticated procedures. At the same time, students learn how to recognize financial need and present treatment options in a sensitive manner and patients benefit by receiving an excellent level of care.
Support for these initiatives demonstrates Dr. Christodoulou’s deep commitment to the Faculty of Dentistry’s vision to improve health by advancing dentistry through inspired leadership, innovation, and excellence in education, research and practice.
We are thrilled to recognize Dr. Christodoulou with this year’s award and are grateful to him for his leadership and confidence in our students and the work of the Faculty.
